Other Shots From Camp

On the morning of the Triathlon we found an Eric twin...but 1.5 feet shorter. Maybe another year of camp food will help him catch up.

The scouts liked going to the rifle range since they got 10 shots for 25 cents. Good thing they couldn't bring these home.

Here we caught Eric sketching. It was not for his Mammal Study merit badge since it is an amphibious creature that Eric still has yet to name

It might look like we are not doing much, but here Scott is helping Tannen with his Boondoggle.

The Pit 21 scouts walking around camp and checking out the different species of trees and leaves and more. Pit 21 rocked for those in it.

I never knew that Duck Tape was around when the Indians were around. Here AJ proves to me that you don't have to be a broadcaster for 20 years to know that Duck Tape solves all our problems.

"Good thing my canteen makes Slurpees. I am not sure what I would do without them on a hot summer day in the mountains."

Triathlon or Scout Ironman

On Friday Afternoon there was a second Scout Triathlon, this time for 14 and over. So Troop 1063 lead off with the Gold Team Swimmer {Eric}...who after making a detour still came in first.



Then Carson took off on a lap around the pond and down the hill and up the steps and into the Canoeing area...where he came into with almost a dead heat 3 way tie for first.



Then Eric and Tanner Wright took off in the canoe to go around the bouy and over to the cement block. Well...these guys took a canoe from the middle of the pack rather than getting one at the end so they headed for the landing in the middle of the pond to start. They went around it to the left and then paddled past the two first place teams that were headed for the cement block.







They finally rounded the bouy and got over to the cement block and almost won even though the other two teams had passed them going in the opposite direction. The other two teams got to the area where their canoe was to end up...however, since they both got out the boat and tried to touch Marci the scout leader that was there instead...they almost ended up losing. About 4 minutes went by and Marci informed them that neither one of them had won since neither one of the them had touched the 'cement block with their canoe.' This goes to prove the importance of listening to the instructions. Troop 1063 should have won...but a couple of detours onto the scenic route made it so we came in third.

Canoeing Chaos

You have seen the 'Swampping' pictures but here are some calmer {yeah right} pictures with the scouts doing what they should for the Canoeing Merit Badge. We were sitting far away and I did not bring my telefoto lens so this is what you get.

Pioneering Merit Badge

Some of the boys did 'Pioneering as one of the merit badges. They had to build a 'Monkey' Bridge...but I am not sure even an 'Ant' could get across the bridge. They had to anchor it in something and some choose styrafoam whilst others did mud. Here are some of the pics from the 'Pioneering Merit Badge Monkey Building.'

In the Canoe's the Scouts were taught to Swamp and be saved...Well here is a series of pictures that shows the fun they had doing this during the 5 days at scout camp

Various Camp Scenes

Troop 1063 was at scout camp for one week, coming home later Friday night. It was a fun time for all. There were 12 boys total at camp and about 8 leaders/fathers that rotated through. Luckily they were in a higher camp site since on Wednesday there were many bursts of rain and the camps below them got flooded out. There was some rain that came and stayed within the leaders tent...but most of it was dry by Thursday PM.

These are various pictures taken around the camp on Thursday and Friday of the boys and their leaders.

Some of the newer scouts did what is called Pit 21 where they work hard and make it all the way to First Class by learning the basics.

There was one late night {Thursday} whilst the leaders and boys worked hard on their leather work or Pioneering stuff to get it done. There will be seperate entries for some of the merit badges since there were many boys all getting the same badges...I have grouped those together instead of in this section of 'Various Camp Scenes.'

Some of the older scouts, Tanner Wright, Hans Knecht, Carson Cook, Eric Birkin and such did other merit badges that helped them get to Star or Life or Eagle Ranks. The Court of Honor for these boys will be in August.
